Solar electrical inspections: scope and documentation
Sources checked
An electrical inspection assesses the installation within its stated scope. Production monitoring does not replace it. At handover, obtain the report and as-built documentation, rather than accepting a working application as evidence that all electrical checks are complete.
Read what was actually inspected
Check the identification of the installation, equipment, circuits and relevant documentation. Confirm the findings and how any defects are to be resolved. A report for one part of the work does not necessarily cover later additions or another contractor's equipment.
Keep the electrical diagram, settings, manuals and inspection records together. These are useful for future service, insurance questions and a change of owner.
Plan further checks for the actual installation
The relevant intervals and scope depend on the installation, environment and applicable requirements. A universal schedule cannot be inferred from panel wattage alone.
After expansion, damage or substantial alteration, have the changed state assessed. Ask who is responsible for arranging checks and updating documentation, especially where an original installation and a later battery retrofit have different suppliers.
