Solar kits: components versus a complete installed system

Sources checked

A solar kit is a seller's bundle of components. The term covers small 12 V cabin systems and domestic rooftop installations with labour. What matters is the exact equipment and services included, rather than the kit label.

Read the bill of materials

Confirm panels, inverter or controller, battery, meter, mounting, cable lengths, connectors and protection. A hardware-only kit generally does not establish the scope or cost of design, installation, electrical inspection and distribution connection.

Check electrical and mechanical compatibility for the actual location. A kit suitable for an independent cabin circuit is not automatically suitable for a home connected to the grid.

Check connection and grant assumptions

A system operating in parallel with the distribution grid must follow the applicable connection procedure, including a system advertised as zero export. A plug or export-limit setting does not establish an exemption.

Household support has programme-specific equipment and installer conditions; the source did not verify DIY installation as eligible. We do not have a verified like-for-like comparison proving a universal saving between a hardware kit and the same completed turnkey installation.
