Solar PV maintenance: checks, records and service
Sources checked
Maintenance starts with observing generation and recording unusual conditions. Owners can monitor and document safely; electrical measurements, connector checks and roof work belong to qualified specialists. Cleaning, preventive checks, electrical inspection and repair serve different purposes.
Build the plan from the equipment manuals
Use the requirements for the exact panels, inverter, battery and mounting system. Note environmental limits, service access and any warranty-related duties. Keep manuals, the as-built diagram, inspection reports and supplier contacts together.
Monitor comparable periods rather than treating every fall in generation as a fault. Seasonal output, shading and missing communications data can explain changes.
Record events and arrange the right service
After unusual weather, review available monitoring and look from the ground for visible damage. Save alarms, dates and safe photographs. Do not open electrical equipment or climb onto the roof to investigate.
Ask service companies to specify travel, diagnostics, labour, replacement parts and the report provided. Update the maintenance log after work or setting changes so later faults can be assessed against a known installation state.
