Solar inverters: grid-connected, hybrid and off-grid
Sources checked
An inverter converts direct current from panels into alternating current for the home and grid. A grid-connected inverter, a battery-capable hybrid inverter and an off-grid inverter serve different system arrangements. Their names do not establish interchangeable functions.
Match the panels and connection
Check MPPT inputs, voltage range, maximum current and permitted string arrangement against the exact modules, including cold-weather voltage. Match phase arrangements and approved settings to the specific distribution connection.
The source notes different details in ZSD, SSD and VSD procedures. For example, an arrangement of single-phase inverters must not be assumed acceptable as a three-phase source simply because another distributor's example allows it under stated conditions.
Confirm storage and backup functions
A hybrid model requires a supported battery and the required communication, metering and control equipment. Check the exact model and firmware rather than just the manufacturer's name.
Backup requires approved isolation, switching and circuits. Ask for its power per phase, transfer behaviour and restart requirements. The electrical designer specifies the installation, and the distributor assesses the particular connection under its process.
