Is your roof suitable for solar PV?

Sources checked

A suitable roof needs sound condition, adequate structural capacity and usable space with reasonable light. Facing south alone is insufficient. Check the covering, supporting structure, shading, attachment details and maintenance access before ordering panels.

Start with the roof's condition and future

If it leaks or needs replacement soon, address the roof first. Later repairs can require professional isolation, panel removal, storage and reinstallation. Include that lifecycle cost when comparing alternatives.

Inspect the condition using appropriate professional access. Supply photographs taken from safe locations and any available roof drawings, repair plans and structural information to the installer.

Check usable space and loading

Modules must fit around chimneys, windows, edges, drainage and access requirements. Wind, snow and mounting loads need assessment alongside panel weight. The fixing arrangement must suit the actual covering and load-bearing structure.

Ask for a dimensioned layout and the basis for structural suitability. Use a project-specific assessment where needed rather than an assumed universal panel weight or roof-edge clearance.
