Preparing a solar PV project: data, roof and connection
Sources checked
A useful PV design begins with your information rather than a panel catalogue. Prepare electricity bills, ideally demand timing as well, and the roof and connection details. These determine array power, inverter arrangement and whether storage has a useful role.
Prepare a clear brief
State existing consumption, future changes such as a heat pump or car, and whether the goal includes backup. Include roof dimensions, condition, planned repairs and safe photographs. Identify the connection, phases and available electrical documentation.
Matching annual production to annual demand does not prove that the home uses the energy when it is generated. The design needs timing and seasonal information, not just the bill total.
Coordinate the building and electrical work
Assess orientation, shade, structure, wind, snow, mounting and service access. Reserve suitable places for the inverter and battery according to their exact manuals. Agree cable routes and required switchboard changes.
ZSD, SSD and VSD procedures differ in details. The distributor assesses the actual connection point and permitted export; a standard package rating does not replace that assessment. Keep the final proposal and responsibilities in writing.
