Where to install a home battery safely
Sources checked
Choose the battery location using the exact model's installation manual and the building conditions. Load capacity, permitted temperature, moisture, clearances and service access matter. LiFePO4 chemistry or an IP rating does not establish suitability for every garage or outdoor cabinet.
Confirm the site before ordering
Check the floor or wall capacity, mounting arrangement, dimensions and cable route. Respect the manufacturer's required spacing, ventilation and environmental limits. An outdoor enclosure can introduce condensation, heat or frost problems rather than automatically solving them.
Consider access for installation, future replacement and emergency isolation. Keep the proposed location and surrounding use consistent with the building's safety requirements.
Connect operating limits to the design
Charging and discharging can have different temperature limits. Determine how the system prevents operation outside them and whether heating or another approved arrangement is needed. Do not assume a nominally outdoor battery can charge below freezing.
Ask the installer to document the location, protective measures and maintenance access in the final design. Agree the position early: long cable routes, supporting structures or environmental measures can materially change the installation price.
