Comparing solar panels: criteria and evidence
Sources checked
The best panel for a home depends on the roof, inverter and supply terms. Compare exact models, the power that fits the available area, electrical compatibility, warranties and complete installation cost. We do not have current independent laboratory measurements to support a universal quality ranking.
Use an evidence-based shortlist
Request the manufacturer's datasheet for the exact model and revision, a layout, electrical design and applicable warranty terms. Verify dimensions, weight, temperature coefficient and inverter current and voltage compatibility.
Separate a manufacturer's published specification from independent test results. The consumer test discussed in the source dates from 2022 and concerns older models; it cannot establish a current ranking of every panel sold today.
Compare the purchase as a whole
A long performance warranty differs from a product-defect warranty and from the installer's responsibility for workmanship. Check the claim route, supplier identity, replacement logistics and regional conditions.
A cheaper panel per Wp can be a worse overall choice if it fits the roof poorly or requires different equipment. Ask the installer to explain the proposed module against a comparable alternative using the same complete scope.
