Installing solar PV: survey, electrical work and handover
Sources checked
Installation begins with a survey and ends with a checked system and its documentation. Putting panels on the roof is only one stage. Agree the design, building and electrical works, distribution process and responsibility for commissioning before work starts.
Plan the stages and responsibilities
Confirm the roof assessment, equipment models, layout, mounting, cable routes, protection, meter and switchboard changes. Establish who handles permissions, connection applications and communication with the distributor.
Arrange safe access and protect the building during works. Any deviations from the agreed equipment or design should be documented, including effects on compatibility, support and warranty.
Completion is more than visible panels
Take delivery of the as-built electrical diagram, equipment and warranty documents, inspection report, settings, monitoring access and operating instructions. Have the agreed controls and any backup function demonstrated.
A roof with panels installed is not, by itself, authorisation to run a source in parallel with the distribution network. Confirm the remaining metering, agreement and commissioning steps with the responsible company.
