Solar air heaters: ventilation, heat and moisture claims
Sources checked
A solar air-heating panel warms passing air using solar heat. It is different from a conventional PV panel powering an electric heater. Separate the tasks of ventilation, supplementary heating and addressing moisture before comparing products.
Design the air path for the building
Check the room, mounting position, intake and exhaust arrangement, airflow and controls. The useful result depends on sun, the building and the complete air route. Confirm whether a fan and its power source are included and when the system operates.
A nominal output figure under favourable conditions is not a guarantee of whole-season heating. Assess when heat is actually useful rather than counting sunny hours without regard to demand.
Treat moisture problems as a separate diagnosis
A panel cannot, by itself, prove that mould or its underlying cause will be removed. Water ingress, building defects and ventilation needs require their own assessment.
Compare purchase, penetrations, installation, filters, maintenance and backup needs. Request the exact operating conditions behind performance claims and confirm how the equipment is controlled when solar heat is unwanted.
