Solar power stations: battery capacity and appliance power

Sources checked

A solar power station is a portable battery with appliance outputs and an input for suitable panels. Wh describes stored energy; W describes the power it can deliver at once. A product called a solar generator does not necessarily include a panel.

Estimate runtime from the actual load

Compare usable output energy after conversion losses and the station's own consumption with appliance demand. Continuous output, starting loads, outlet limits and charging while in use can affect suitability.

A refrigerator cycles and may draw a starting surge; a heater can consume a large battery quickly. A headline capacity cannot establish runtime without a stated load and operating conditions.

Match solar input and intended use

Check panel voltage, current, maximum charging power, connectors and any included controller. Advertised maximum input is not a promise that a small panel reaches it throughout the day.

Read environmental and charging-temperature limits, particularly for outdoor or winter use. If the task is home outage backup, confirm the supported method for supplying appliances; portable sockets do not establish a safe connection to the home's fixed wiring.
