Ground-mounted solar: land, foundations and full costs

Sources checked

Ground-mounted PV is an alternative when the roof is unsuitable and a sufficiently unshaded site is available. It allows orientation and ground-level access, but occupies land and needs a dedicated support structure, foundations and an electrical route to the home.

Assess the land and structure

Check ground conditions, wind and snow, seasonal shading, drainage and future land use. Confirm the local permission process for the actual structure and associated works. Keep maintenance and access around the modules in the layout.

A roof quotation cannot be turned into a ground quotation simply by exchanging roof hooks for supports. Earthworks and a different structural design can change the scope substantially.

Include the route and ongoing care

Price trenching, cable routing, protection, reinstatement and any access work explicitly. Electrical design must use the real route length and conditions. Consider vegetation growth and the practical work needed to maintain the area.

Compare the full installed system and expected useful output with roof repairs or other sites where relevant. Ground access helps servicing, but does not remove electrical or structural requirements.
