Your electricity bill after installing solar PV
Sources checked
Your bill does not show the PV system's entire generation. It charges the relevant electricity purchases and services under your contract. Solar electricity used directly in the house may never pass through the distribution meter, and fixed charges or other fees can remain.
Reconcile different measurements
The inverter measures its own production and supported flows. A household energy meter measures at another point. The distribution meter records the flows relevant to the connection and billing. Differences in period, measurement location and timing can produce different figures without proving a fault.
Compare the same dates, units and meter registers. Include battery charging, delivery and losses when interpreting the home's energy balance.
Read surplus settlement separately
An exported kWh is not automatically deducted at the full retail import price. Sale, virtual credit and sharing each follow their own contracts and charges. Check whether credits offset energy alone or other bill items as well.
To assess savings, compare the variable imports avoided and net surplus value with the case without PV. Do not treat all existing fixed electricity charges as costs that disappear after installation.
