Sharing solar electricity: timing, metering and settlement

Sources checked

Electricity sharing allocates measured electricity to participating consumption points in the same settlement interval. It is not seasonal storage and cannot turn unused midday production into electricity physically stored for the evening.

Prepare the participating points

Check suitable interval metering, permissions, contracts and registration through the Energy Data Centre, EDC. Identify the actual production and consumption points rather than simply listing people in a group.

The registration process may require a contract and authorisation as well as technical identifiers. Allocation order and proportions affect who receives the measured shared electricity, so agree them before relying on a savings estimate.

Separate allocation from financial benefit

The assigned energy volume is not automatically the final saving. Examine supply terms, remaining charges, the agreed price between participants and service fees. Do not count one unit of exported electricity again as both sold surplus and shared energy.

Compare final EDC data with supplier settlement. The website's hourly reference calculator does not replace the quarter-hour evaluation used for sharing or establish your group's financial outcome.

Choose a reference profile and enter your prices. Compare generation, self-consumption and an illustrative benefit without registration.
