Solar carports: structure, roof and vehicle charging
Sources checked
A solar carport combines a load-bearing structure with a power installation. Design the foundations, wind and snow resistance, drainage and cable route together. Panels alone do not establish a documented rainproof roof over the vehicle.
Compare the complete structure
Check site dimensions, clear height, vehicle movement, foundations, corrosion protection and roof details. Confirm permissions for the actual structure and the ownership of the site. A roof-panel package cannot be transferred to a carport simply by adding posts.
Ask whether quoted output uses the actual orientation and shading at the parking position. The panel layout must fit the structural and drainage design as well as the electrical one.
Treat charging as another design task
Solar car charging depends on the car being connected during production and on the available power after household demand. A wallbox, metering and control may be additional equipment.
Request separate scopes for the carport, PV, connection and charging. Establish warranty responsibility for the structure, weatherproofing and electrical installation, including service access without damaging the roof.
