Solar well pumps: dynamic level, pressure and water demand
Sources checked
Choose a solar well pump from more than borehole depth or motor watts. You need the dynamic water level while pumping, outlet height and pressure, pipe losses and required water volume. Panel, controller and protection must suit the exact pump.
Establish the actual duty
Record the well conditions, lift to delivery and the pressure needed at the outlet. Compare flow at that working point, not a maximum-flow figure combined with maximum head. The available water and its conditions also affect the suitable product.
Specify how the system prevents unsuitable operation, such as the conditions covered by the manufacturer's dry-running or other protection requirements.
Price the complete water supply
A submersible motor or pump price does not establish the cost of a working solar water system. Include panels, controller, cables, supports, pipework, protection, installation and any water storage or controls.
If demand must continue outside sunny periods, compare an approved energy or water-storage arrangement. The installation needs a design for the actual well and use rather than a universal panel-to-pump wattage ratio.
