Buying or selling a home with solar PV
Sources checked
When buying a home with PV, verify system ownership, technical condition and transfer of contracts separately. A house purchase agreement does not automatically transfer generation arrangements, support, finance or the monitoring account. Agree these steps before handover.
Check ownership and technical records
Confirm whether the equipment is owned outright or subject to finance, leasing or service agreements. Obtain equipment models, the as-built diagram, inspection reports, warranties, operating instructions and maintenance history.
Have the condition assessed where needed. A seller's generation screenshot is not a complete technical check or a verified prediction of the buyer's electricity savings.
Arrange each transfer explicitly
Identify distribution and electricity contracts, surplus services, support obligations, insurance and monitoring access. Check which parties need notification or a new agreement and whether warranties can be transferred.
Record meter readings, access changes, documents and outstanding responsibilities at handover. Do not assume that selling the property ends finance or support conditions, or that account passwords alone establish the new owner's rights.
