Insuring solar panels and home batteries
Sources checked
Having panels on an insured home does not prove that every type of damage is covered. Describe the entire installation, including storage and its location, to the insurer. Obtain written confirmation for the actual policy's insured property, risks, limits, excess and exclusions.
Ask about the complete installation
Identify roof-mounted, ground-mounted or separate structures, the inverter, battery and associated equipment. Check the insured value and whether installation changes require a policy amendment. A carport or detached equipment may have different treatment from the main building.
Read cover for the events relevant to the site, such as hail or electrical damage, together with maintenance and documentation requirements. Do not infer cover from a product warranty.
Prepare records before an event
Keep invoices, model details, photographs, inspection reports and commissioning records. After damage, preserve safe evidence and follow the insurer's reporting and assessment process before disposing of relevant equipment.
Confirm whether diagnosis, removal, reinstallation and interrupted production are included or excluded. Policy wording and the actual agreed cover determine the result; a general guide cannot confirm an individual claim.
