Solar phone chargers: USB output, light and storage
Sources checked
Choose a solar phone charger by the output supported by the phone, not panel wattage alone. A panel without a battery needs sunlight during charging. Energy for later use comes from a separate or built-in battery.
Check the entire charging path
Verify voltage, current, USB protocol and the cable, together with the manufacturer's expected charging behaviour. A high panel rating does not guarantee the phone accepts that power. Intermittent shade can affect charging differently from a stable mains adapter.
A hiking USB panel is not automatically a charger for a vehicle battery or loose rechargeable cells. Those require their own supported charging electronics and protection.
Compare practical use in the field
Account for orientation, weather, packability and the time the panel can remain exposed. If dependable charging after dark is the task, include a suitable power bank and its conversion losses.
Confirm environmental protection for each part; an outdoor panel rating does not automatically apply to the connected phone, USB plugs or battery. Compare delivered useful energy rather than the largest headline number.
