Solar electric fences: energiser, battery and fence design
Sources checked
A solar electric fence needs a suitable pulse energiser, battery and panel, together with a correctly designed fence. Buying a solar energiser does not establish suitability for every animal, fence length or level of vegetation. This is different from a photovoltaic boundary fence that generates electricity for a building.
Design for the actual fencing task
Identify the species, boundary layout, conductor arrangement, vegetation and site conditions. The energiser's specifications must be interpreted with the complete fence and the manufacturer's instructions.
Earthing, connections and local requirements belong to the actual design. A nominal maximum fence length is not a guarantee under all leakage and vegetation conditions.
Include the complete supply and care
An energiser price does not automatically include posts, conductors, fixings or installation. Verify the supported battery, solar charging and seasonal autonomy rather than assuming sunlight always replaces the energy used.
Agree testing, vegetation management and maintenance. The exact installation and applicable requirements should be handled through an appropriate specialist design rather than improvised from a product's headline rating.
