Solar garden lights: brightness, charging and purpose
Sources checked
Choose a solar light by what it needs to illuminate, rather than LED count or watts in the product name. Light output, direction, panel position and operating time matter. Decorative points along a path do not automatically illuminate steps or obstacles.
Define the lighting task
Compare lumens and light distribution at the mounting height, together with operating modes and any motion sensor. A bright-looking product photograph cannot establish useful illumination over a stated area.
Check glare and the difference between decorative lighting and lighting needed for a specific activity. Panel, battery and lamp specifications describe different parts of the system.
Allow for charging and battery care
Solar power removes the need for an incoming power cable but adds dependence on sunlight and battery condition. Shade, winter days, frequent triggering and high-brightness modes can reduce runtime.
Confirm the conditions behind an up-to runtime claim, environmental ratings for all parts and the supported replacement battery. Do not assume summer performance establishes dependable all-night winter lighting.
